The Supreme Court of Nigeria has thrown out the case seeking the disqualification of 'President-elect' Bola Tinubu and 'Vice President-elect' Kashim Shettima.


Peoples Democratic Party filed a lawsuit seeking Tinubu and Shettima's disqualification as presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

The supreme court's judgement concerned Shettima's alleged double nomination in the 2023 general election.

The PDP appealed on the grounds that the appellate court committed a legal error when it rejected its appeal and upheld the trial court's ruling that the litigation was negligent and without merit.


According to the PDP, the ruling party violated the law by selecting Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate and senatorial candidate for Borno Central.


Tinubu and Shettima are currently scheduled to be sworn in as the next president and vice president of Nigeria on May 29.


The ruling of the supreme court concerned the alleged double nomination of Shettima in the 2023 general election.
