3 in court for allegedly stealing N8m groundnut oil, N470,000 cash from employer

Three employees, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N8 million worth of groundnut oil and N470,000 cash belonging to their employer.

The defendants, Daniel Sulaiman, 20, a carpenter; Ahmed Odebunmi, 40, a driver; and Rofiat Abiola, 38, a cashier, are being prosecuted on charges of conspiracy and stealing.

The three, who reside at Alagbado area in Lagos State, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem told the court that the offences were committed between April and November, 2023, at TOGAS Vegetable Oil Company, AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos State.

Akeem said that the first defendant, Sulaiman, allegedly broke into the cashier’s office and stole N470,000.

The prosecutor also said that the second and third defendants conspired to steal N8 million worth of vegetable oil, property of their employer, Mrs Temitope Oke.

Akeem said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants N300,000 bail each, and with two sureties each in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Feb. 1 for mention.
