The Italian government will allow the repatriation of Italians from Britain under certain conditions, according to sources at the Foreign Ministry in Rome.
Like several other European nations, Italy slapped a flight ban on Britain after the discovery there, of a highly contagious new strain of the coronavirus.
However, Italians stuck in Britain who have their permanent residence in Italy or have a pressing motive for repatriation will be allowed to fly back.
They will have to undergo coronavirus swab tests before departure and on arrival, and spend 14 days in quarantine, according to a draft decree due to be made official in the coming hours.
So far, the country had recorded 1,980, 000 confirmed cases and 69, 842 death.
