Healthcare: Group congratulates Jigawa Govt. for emerging North-West zonal champion

The Jigawa State Civil Society Advocacy Partners (JISCAP) has congratulated the state government for emerging the North-West zonal champion in the implementation of Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

The partnership made the commendation in a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr Isa Mustapha in Dutse on Monday.

The group said: “It is pertinent to say that government has demonstrated a high sense of concern in improving health care indices in Jigawa state, under the Save One Million Lives programme.”

JISCAP comprises different advocacy groups including Civil Society Organisations as well as the media working across the state.

They include Maternal and Newborn Child Health Partners, (MNCH), Project Monitoring Partnership (PMP), Partnership for Transforming Education (PTE), Gender and Social Inclusion (GSI), Strengthening Participatory Governance (SPG), among others.

The group expressed hope that the performance would serve as a catalyst to reduce maternal and infant mortality to the barest minimum.

“We appeal to the state government to use part of the fund to extend Free Maternal and Newborn Child Health (FMNCH) services to additional health facilities.

“Government should also use some of the fund to establish infant and young child, and community management acute malnutrition centres in all local government areas.

“The gesture will in no small measure improve health indices of the state.

Government should involve the benefiting communities through facility health committees, friends of hospitals and other partners in the policy implementation for effective monitoring.

“This is to ensure accountability, prudence and transparency which are the hallmarks of governance,’’ it said.

The group called on the public to support the programme by taking their children to health centres for immunisation and allowing their wives to visit the nearest health facility for antenatal, delivery and postnatal.

“We also appreciate the contribution of other stakeholders, including donor partners in achieving this milestone.

“The partnership will continue to collaborate with government and other partners to improve maternal and newborn child health in Jigawa state,” it stated.
