The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to prioritise health and well-being during the festive season, as travel, social gatherings and celebrations increase significantly across the country.

Director-General Jide Idris, said the holiday season, while joyful and unifying, often brought health risks including fatigue, dehydration, poor dietary choices and reduced physical activity among many Nigerians nationwide during festivities.

He advised Nigerians to stay adequately hydrated, remain physically active and ensure sufficient rest, in spite of busy schedules involving travel, long celebrations and numerous social engagements throughout the festive period nationwide annually.

Idris urged regular handwashing with soap and clean water, moderation in food and alcohol intake, warning that excessive sugary drinks and processed foods could weaken immunity and overall well-being during festivities.

He also emphasised mental well-being, encouraging Nigerians to pause, breathe and recharge, noting that prioritising self-care during festivities supported healthier celebrations and a stronger return to daily activities in the year.
