FCT community laments bad roads, lack of basic facilities

Some residents of Kpaduma community area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have lamented over the lack basic facilities such as hospitals, good roads and electricity in their areas.

Mrs Pauline Ogar, a mother of four who claimed she had lived in the community for over 10 years, said lack of an affordable medical facility was a major problem in the community.

Mrs Ogar said that the only health care centre the community once had was non functional as residents sought medical services at Asokoro General Hospital which is a distance away.

"We ask the Federal Government to help us as some families find it difficult to afford drugs in this village," she said.

Another resident, Mrs Mwanret Danan said that children and workers were the most affected by the bad roads in the district.

"When it rains our children find it difficult to go to school and at times we could have light only twice in a month while we pay light bills," she lamented.

She said that the residents who also lacked boreholes, bought water most times after barely having enough money to feed their families.

In an attempt to assist the community's health sector, Fire Officers' Wives Association (FOWA) on Sunday offered free medical services, donations to Kpaduma District One residents.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) Spokesperson, Mr Paul Abraham, said that the outreach was in commemoration of FFS Controller General (CG), Abdulganiyu Jaji's 100 days in office as CG.

Abraham said that FOWA President, Mrs Kusumu Jaji, who is also a medical practitioner, chose the community because it lacked primary health care facilities.

Jaji said it was imperative to offer humanitarian services to the less privileged in times like this as citizens were confronted with financial constraints.

She said that some of the tests carried out were blood pressure, malaria and sugar level as medicines were being administered by FOWA doctors.

She called on well meaning Nigerians to offer assistance to those in need as this would go a long way in improving the economy and lives of citizens.

Kpaduma District Head, Ahmedu Mamayi, expressed gratitude for the donations and free medical services.

The District Head requested for a fire outpost to be established within the community to tackle fire emergencies and create employment.

"We can't leave the government to do everything alone so let's continue to do our bits to assist the efforts of government," he said.
