The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) on Thursday released its competition schedules for 2021.
According to HFN 2021 programmes obtained by Newsmen, the country’s top tier handball league, Prudent Energy Handball Premier, will hold in two phases next year.
HFN Secretary General, Maigidansanma Mohammed, said in the statement that the first phase would hold in Abuja in May, while the second phase would hold in Lagos in Oct.
He added that the Women National Handball team were not left out as they would be representing the country at the 24th Women’s Seniors Africa Nations Cup holding in Cameroon from June 11 to June 20, 2021.
“ The Nation’s Cup for women, which was to hold in August 2020, was postponed by the Confederation of Africa Handball because of the Corona Virus pandemic,’’ he said.
Mohammed also said that “the 36th African Clubs Championship for the Winners’ Cup will hold from March 31 to April 9, 2021.
He added that the 2020 National Handball League Division One, which would see teams qualifying for the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League 2021, would hold in February, while the National U12/15 Handball Championship would hold in August in Sokoto.
Other competitions are the Granoller Cup Championship holding in Spain in July, Partille Cup International Championship holding in Sweden June/July, the 6th National Youth Games holding in Ilorin and the National Sports Festival which is expected to hold from Jan.3 to 18, 2021 in Edo State, among several others
“Aside on-court hostilities, there will be Referees Training/Seminar in February, Coaches Seminar organised by the continental handball governing body CAHB and Seminar/Workshop for Nigeria Handball coaches in November,” the HFN scribe said.
