Olise urged journalists to ensure they crosscheck their facts before going to the press.

The Management of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc, has denied reports that there was a kidnap attempt on its expatriate workers.

The company's Communications Officer, Mr Fidelis Olise, made the denial in a statement made available on Monday in Benin.

Olise decried the reports published in some online medium quoting Edo police command as foiling an attempted kidnap of an expatriate worker in its employment.

Olise urged journalists to ensure they crosscheck their facts before going to the press.

He said, "While we do not doubt the courageous actions of the Nigeria Police to combat crime in Edo in particular and Nigeria in general, we wish to state that there was no kidnap attempt on any of the expatriates.

"We believe that the reference to Okomu Oil must have been a mistaken identity. This is why we urge journalists to clarify and confirm information before publication so as not to mislead the public," he said.
