NYSC members are ambassadors of national unity, says Mutfwang
Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, of Plateau, has said that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serve as ambassadors of national unity and torchbearers of national cohesion.
Mutfwang stated this on Friday, at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream I corps members orientation exercise.
The governor, who was represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Musa Ashoms, said the corps members were not just participants in the one-year service programme.
“They are ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration, and catalysts for social and economic progress.
“The NYSC scheme remained a vital tool for fostering national unity and development,” he said.
Mutfwang tasked the newly sworn-in corps members to pay special attention to all the course content during the orientation exercise and adhere to the bylaws of the scheme.
The governor called on them to inculcate the spirit of discipline, patriotism, self-reliance, and leadership skills, which would equip them during and beyond the service year.
He urged them to uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service and perform their duties with diligence.
He advised them to position themselves as positive and dependable agents of transformation in the nation by shunning all forms of misinformation, divisive narratives, and sentiments that would undermine the collective unity.
Mutfwang reassured the corps members that his administration, in collaboration with security agencies, was working tirelessly to sustain the peace and stability that had been restored in the state.
According to him, strategic measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors in the state.
Earlier, Mr Jonathan Yavala, Plateau NYSC Coordinator, urged the newly sworn-in corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition programme, as it would prepare them for the rigours of the service year ahead and beyond.
Yavala commended the Plateau Government for its unflinching support towards the NYSC scheme.
Supreme news reports that 1,600 corps members were registered at the close of registration.
