Nsukka Chairman implores legislative council to recall 12 suspended councilors

Chief Jude Asogwa, the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government of Enugu State, has appealed to the Nsukka legislative council to recall the 12 councilors suspended in August, 2025.
He said that the 12 out of 20 councilors in Nsukka LG were suspended by their colleagues for attempting to impeach Mr Emmanuel Ugwu, the Leader of the Legislative Council.
Asogwa made the appeal in Nsukka on Monday at Adada House during a stakeholders meeting, saying that “to err is human but to forgive is divine”.
“I am appealing to Nsukka legislative council to consider lifting the indefinite suspension and recalling the affected councilors.
“We are all human and can make mistakes one time or the other.
“But the affected councilors should write apology letter to the legislative council through the leader that they were sorry and have regretted their actions,” he said.
The council chairman however, expressed disappointment and sadness on the action of the affected councilors who conspired to tarnish the image of Nsukka Local Government Area by attempting to impeach the leader.
Asogwa said his annoyance was that the 12 councilors did not even care to report the issue to him as the council chairman or any stakeholder on the face-off they had with the leader before resorting to impeachment attempt.
“I felt bad and disappointed that none of the affected councilors was able to report the face-off to me or any stakeholder so as to resolve this issue but they hurriedly resorted to impeachment to tarnish the image of the council.
“What they did showed that they have no respect for me as well as any stakeholder in the area,” he said.
The LG boss commended stakeholders in the area who have intervened in their various capacities to ensure that the misunderstanding in Legislative Council was resolved amicably.
In a remark, Chief Chris Ezema, the acting Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nsukka LG commended Asogwa for his intervention and appealed to the legislative arm to lift the suspension of affected councilors.
“I commend the council chairman for this intervention, it will help Nsukka legislative council to move forward.
“It was unfortunate that the 12 affected councilors allowed themselves to be used to create disharmony on an issued that could been been resolved amicably if council chairman or stakeholders were consulted.
Responding the Leader of the Legislative Council thanked Nsukka LG Chairman and stakeholders in the area for the meeting to find amicable solution to the standoff in the council since August, 2025.
Ugwu promised that he would convene a sitting where the appeal of lifting the suspension and recalling the 12 suspended councilors would be considered.
Speaking on behalf of the 12 suspended councilors who all were present, Mr Chidi Okoro, the councilor representing Edem-Ani Ward expressed appreciation to the council chairman and stakeholders in Nsukka LG for their interventions.
