NPA deploys electronic barrier system across terminals in Lagos Port

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says it has successfully implemented the installation of Electronic Barrier Systems (EBS) at all terminals in Lagos port to enhance operational efficiency and improve traffic management.
The Managing Director of NPA, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, said this in a statement by the General Manager, Corporate Communication and Strategy, Mr Okechukwu Onyemekara, in Lagos on Thursday.
Dantsoho said that the initiative followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders aimed at addressing the persistent issue of unauthorised truck diversions.
He said that the truck diversion had adversely impacted terminal efficiency, traffic flow and overall port productivity.
He said that the initiative was to ensure seamless coordination and transparency in truck movements.
According to him, the Electronic Barriers have been fully integrated with the Eto Electronic Call-Up System, managed by MESSR Trucks Transit Parks Ltd. (TTP).
Dantsoho said that the integration guaranteed that only trucks with valid Eto-issued call-up tickets would be granted access to terminal facilities, thereby eliminating unauthorised entries and enhancing gate control operations.
“We are pleased to announce that as of Sept, 1, all Terminals within the Lagos Port Complex will commence full live operations using the Integrated Electronic Barrier System.
“This milestone represents a significant advancement in the authority’s drive for enhanced automation and modernisation of port infrastructure in Nigeria, and reflects the authority’s commitment.
“The authority is committed to supporting the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda, promoting transparency and accountability, enhancing port operational efficiency and strengthening truck traffic management.
“The NPA appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders throughout the processes preceding this development,,” he said.
He said that the authority and remained committed to deploying innovative solutions to improve service delivery and foster a more efficient, secure and a business-friendly port environment.
He said that NPA would continue to strengthen its vision of becoming the hub for maritime logistics and sustainable port services in Africa.
