The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged both Nigerians in Diaspora and at home to emulate Zumunta Association in giving back to the country by boosting economic development.
Mrs Abike-Erewa Chaiman of NiDCOM gave the task in Abuja when she received six-man members of Zumunta Association USA Inc, led by the President Mr Philip Moses who visited her on Thursday.
Supreme reports that Zumunta Association is a not-for-profit Cultural Community Organisation, formed in the United States by members from the 19 northern states including the FCT.
The association has the goal of bringing all Northern descent Nigerians together to promote fellowship and activities among its members in the USA diaspora.
Dabiri-Erewa also urged citizens in the Diaspora to take advantage of the mortgage scheme fashioned out for them in collaboration with the Federal Mortgage Bank.
She further explained that the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Initiative and the Diaspora mortgage scheme were among the initiatives of the current administration to carry those in the Diaspora along.
The President of Zumunta Association appreciated the NiDCOM boss for providing the platform for the association to rollout its empowerment programme.
He said that Zumunta Association USA would continue to seek the support of NiDCOM.
Supreme also reports that the association presented to 18 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), from 11 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory some palliative awards.
The benevolent gifting to the NGOs was done recently at the second Phase of the Zumunta Association of USA Inc. Benevolent Palliative project Awards in Abuja.
