The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hamim Sanusi, has urged journalists in the country to uphold the ethics and integrity of the profession.

Sanusi made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to his palace by the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa Council.

The Emir, who described journalists as role models, however, noted that the profession had been infiltrated due to the proliferation of social media.

“As the grand patron of the union, I will do my best to ensure that the integrity and image of the profession is restored.

“Our doors will always remain open for you. I want you to feel at home and approach the emirate whenever the need arises,” Sanusi said.

Earlier, the Jigawa NUJ Chairman, Ismail Ibrahim, introduced the new executive members to the Emir and appealed to the emirate for guidance.

Ibrahim briefed Sanusi on the state of the NUJ Secretariat and the interventions to rehabilitate it.

He further pledged to discard quack journalists in the state to uphold the ethics and integrity of the profession.

The chairman appealed to the Emir to maintain the status of grand patron of the union, continuing the support given to the council by his late father.
