Sheikh Nurudeen Abdul-Kadiri, the Chief Imam of Sideeqat Ahmad Megida Central Mosque, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has urged the Federal Government to reschedule the 2027 general elections over Ramadan.

He made the appeal after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers on Friday, stressing the need for inclusivity in Nigeria’s multi-religious society.

According to him, election periods often involve movement restrictions, making it difficult for fasting Muslims to travel long distances to vote.

He noted that Nigeria’s leadership should be mindful of religious sensitivities when fixing national events such as elections.

“Nigeria is a multi-religious country, and leaders can consider Muslim concerns and adjust election dates,” he said.

The cleric also prayed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength to lead the nation.

He commended Tinubu’s administration, describing it as exemplary, particularly in efforts to reduce food prices across the country.

Abdul-Kadiri said the drop in food prices had helped curb social vices, noting that hunger often fuels criminal activities.

He, however, acknowledged ongoing challenges, urging Nigerians to remain patient and trust in God for solutions.

The cleric also encouraged Muslims to sustain Ramadan lessons, including piety, discipline and compassion.

He emphasised applying these values beyond Ramadan to promote personal growth and societal harmony.

“Nigerians should thank Almighty Allah. While we celebrate, many worldwide face wars, sickness and hardship,” he said.

Abdul-Kadiri urged citizens to remain grateful, noting that thankfulness attracts more blessings and stability.

Also speaking, a businessman, Jubril Odusanya, prayed for divine guidance for President Tinubu to implement his policies successfully.

Similarly, a civil servant, Alhaja Fatima Mahmood, appreciated prevailing peace and urged Nigerians to contribute to national development.

She called on citizens to support government efforts and work collectively towards a more prosperous Nigeria.
