BRISIN is essential for data governance, national security, and socio-economic development,

Dr Anthony Uwa, Head of the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN) Implementation Team, has raised concerns over the delayed rollout of the national data governance infrastructure, 18 years after approval.

Uwa said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

He said BRISIN, conceived as Nigeria’s first integrated data and information management system, was approved as a foundational tool for national planning, security, and socio-economic development.

He said the implementation of BRISIN was crucial in fighting criminality and building a lasting solution.

“The Minister of Defence has insisted on the immediate implementation of BRISIN to build a comprehensive database of all citizens,” he said.

Uwa expressed frustration that 18 years after approval, the project was yet to take off, in spite of its importance in combating terrorism, criminality, and promoting national development.

He urged Nigerians to support the implementation of BRISIN.

“The system is a solid foundation and credibility instrument that has been approved by the Federal Executive Council.

“BRISIN is essential for data governance, national security, and socio-economic development,”Uwa emphasided.

According to him, the delay in implementation has hindered the country’s progress, and it’s time for the government to take action.

Uwa called on the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning to authorise the coordinating department to work with Federal Capital Territory and solution providers.

“BRISIN is a unifying power and the first fundamental platform for data governance.

“It’s a solid instrument and strategy considering Nigeria’s multi-ethnic differences. Every developed nation has a similar system, and Nigeria needs it for checks and balances.

“The feasibility of a strong economy is not a political issue, but a response to developmental foundation.

“BRISIN is an instrument of measurement and sustainability, promoting peace, civil coexistence, internal security, legality, and equality,”Uwa said.

Uwa emphasised that the sustainable technological evolution applied to the BRISIN system introduced innovation as a force capable of redefining existing arrangements.

“It’s time for Nigeria to move forward, and BRISIN is the way,” he added.
