Benue Assembly passes bill to establish Labe College of Nursing Sciences

The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill seeking to establish the Labe College of Nursing Sciences, Gboko, Benue.
Leading the debate on the bill, the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Health, Dr Matthew Damkor (APC/Tiev), urged members to support its passage, describing the proposed institution as beneficial to society and the health sector.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr Thomas Dugeri (APC/Kwande West), subsequently moved a motion for the passage of the bill, which was seconded by Mr Simon Gabo (APC/Mata).
Following the motion, the Speaker of the House, Mr Alfred Emberga, directed the Clerk of the House, Dr Bem Mela, to read the bill for the third time. After the third reading, the speaker declared the bill passed.
In a related development, the house screened and confirmed Gov. Hyacinth Alia’s nominee, Mr Jerry Ashwe, as a member of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
During the screening exercise, Ashwe was asked to take a bow and leave after his representative in the assembly, Mr Solomon Gyila (PDP/Gwer West), moved a motion that the nominee be allowed to take a bow and leave, and the motion was seconded by Mr Cyril Ikong (OJU II).
The speaker thereafter announced that the nominee had successfully passed the screening and was confirmed as a commissioner nominee for BSIEC.
