A stalwart of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Onuigbo, says with the successful conduct of its national convention, the party has laid the foundation for victory in the 2027 general elections.

Onuigbo, a former member of House of Representatives, said this on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

APC, which is currently ruling at the federal level and in 31 states, boosted by wave of defections by some sitting governors, held its convention in Abuja between March 27 and March 28.

Supreme news reports that the national convention climaxed the ward, local government, state and zonal congresses, all of which took place between Feb. 18 and March 21.

During the convention, new National Working Committee (NWC) members, led by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman and Sen. Ajibola Basiru as National Secretary, emerged through consensus votes.

The former lawmaker commended Yilwatda for carrying various interest groups in the party along during the convention, saying that this contributed immensely to the success of the event.

Onuigbo, an aspirant for Abia Central Senatorial District, told newsmen that the role of President Bola Tinubu in ensuring that the party was rancour-free was commendable.

“Having had a successful convention, it means a solid foundation for us to go for our primary elections, and then be ready for the general elections.

“It is important to acknowledge that the APC convention was world-class.

“We are going to go ahead with that level of unity to be able to prosecute the elections and sustain the programmes of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“I want to commend President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for leading the party in the right way by reducing crises,” he told newsmen.

According to him, Tinubu has taken bold steps to reposition the nation’s economy for the present and future generations.

He listed some of the initiatives to include the removal of fuel subsidy, the students’ loan scheme and unification of exchange rate which, he said, had stabilised foreign exchange.

“Before the removal of fuel subsidy, every governor was going cap-in-hand looking for bailouts to pay salaries. Is any governor still doing that today? The answer is `No`,” he said.

On the efforts of opposition parties to fix their internal wrangling and challenge for power in 2027, Onuigbo said: “We are in a multi-party democracy; so every party is free to make its own efforts.”
