Participants at a conference on Inter-Ethnic Peace Dialogue have called on the Federal Government to address the insecurity in Nigeria, in line with its mandate to protect lives and property. The participants made the call in a communique issued at the end of a conference on “Nigeria’s 2023 Presidential Transition Inter-Ethnic Peace Dialogue” in Abuja.

The communique was made available to newsmen by the Mr Kennedy Iyere, by the founder of the Youths Off The Street Initiative (YOTSI), the convener of the conference in partnership with its Diaspora Partners, in collaboration with Ethnic Nationalities. The communique also agitated for an emergency ‘National Conference in 2022, to fashion out a new Federal Constitution on the way forward for the Federating Regions.

”Stakeholders at the conference also agreed that the ‘2023 Presidency’ be zoned to the south. ”They also demanded the amendment of the ‘Electoral Law’ to provide for Electronic Voting and Real-time Transmission of Results before 2023 General Elections. ”This the forum said will provide for transparency, accountability and to allow the ‘Sanctity of the Ballot Box’ and to reduce electorate’s voting apathy,” the communique said.

The participants also called for the adherences to Federal Character during federal appointments. The participants also urged the Federal Government to address the recurring security challenges in the country to avert a second civil war and possible disintegration of the country. The forum expressed belief in a United Nigeria and does not support or believe in secession but insists on acts of equality, peace and justice. The forum adopted and unveiled the YOTSI proposed “United Nigeria Advocacy Committee (UNAC)”, that was unveiled by Dr Olusegun Mimiko, former Governor of Ondo.
