Speaking at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Dakar, Sall said he will see de-escalation in Ukraine and peace through dialogue between the two sides.

Senegalese President Macky Sall said he would visit Moscow and Kyiv in the coming weeks in his capacity as chairman of the African Union.

Speaking at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Dakar, Sall said he will see de-escalation in Ukraine and peace through dialogue between the two sides.

"We do not want to be aligned on this conflict, very clearly we want peace.

" Even though we condemn the invasion we're working for de-escalation.

"We're working for a ceasefire, for dialogue, that is the African position,'' Sall said.

Scholz paid a visit to Dakar, the capital of Senegal, as part of his Africa tour that would later take him to Niger and South Africa.

The German chancellor said Senegal and Germany are two friendly countries that can count on mutual support.

"We appreciate Senegal's commitment to peace in the sub-region."
