It comes on top of asset freezes and travel bans already imposed on senior Kremlin officials involved in Russia’s recognition of independence for Ukraine’s breakaway provinces
The European Union (EU) is to sanction Russian President Vladimir Putin and his foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, diplomatic sources told dpa on Friday.
They are included in a new sanctions package to be signed off by EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels.
It comes on top of asset freezes and travel bans already imposed on senior Kremlin officials involved in Russia's recognition of independence for Ukraine's breakaway provinces
The restrictions also target Russia's energy, finance, and transport sector as well levelling an export ban for critical technologies and software.
Restrictions on visa policies are also to be introduced.
