AIFA noted that vaccination is still beneficial because it allows them to go to school and participate in activities, which is important for their development.

The Italian Medicines Agency, AIFA, announced on Thursday that it has approved Pfizer/BioNTech's Coronavirus vaccine for children between the ages of five and 11. Children in that age bracket are to receive one-third of the dose given to adolescents and adults. Under the agency's advice, they are to receive two doses of the vaccine three weeks apart.

Although COVID-19 symptoms are milder in children, AIFA noted that vaccination is still beneficial because it allows them to go to school and participate in activities, which is important for their development. According to the data currently available, the vaccine has been found to be highly effective and safe.

In Italy, about 87.5 per cent of people over the age of 12 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine so far. On Wednesday, authorities reported nearly 15,100 new Coronavirus infections in the country and just over 100 deaths within a day.
