Baltic's supermarkets protest by stop stocking Russian product

Two of the largest supermarket chains in the Baltic Republics on Friday_said that they would stop stocking Russian produce indefinitely.

This was a show of solidarity with Ukraine, as the country endured Russian invasion.

The chains, Rimi and Maxima, both of which have outlets in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and are market leaders, said they would no longer take stock from suppliers of Russian products.

According to the Rimi statement, the amount of Russian produce previously on sale was relatively small in any case; the decision should be seen as a symbolic act with a clear message.

Other retailers are taking similar action, according to press reports.

And German discounter Lidl told dpa it imports no products from Russia.

Belarus produce is coming in for similar treatment, the reports said.
