This year’s festival, held from Oct. 24 to 28, is geared towards driving social change and provoking youth interest in arts and photography.

Osaze Efe, the curator and creative director of the Abuja Photo Festival, says the festival is aimed at showcasing photos that highlight Nigeria’s challenges for viewers to address.

Efe said this on Tuesday night in an interview with the newsmen on the sidelines of the opening of the 7th edition of the festival in Abuja.

“The core of what we do is for social change, where we use photography to highlight social issues.

“For example, some of the arts and photos express the social issues that we are facing in Nigeria like electricity issues.

“We also have photos on solar energy, the electricity challenges in Nigeria and how solar energy is coming to support local communities and support local economy.

"There are photo stories of children with visual impairments who still go to school, as well as others that address issues of human rights.

"In essence, we use photos to raise questions and open doors for dialogue in a way that prompts the viewer to take action that makes society better, he said.

Efe said that the photo fiesta would hold master classes for the mentorship of young artists.

He added that seasoned artists and curators from different parts of the world would be available as resource persons to handle master classes, workshops, seminars, and photo walks.

“This year’s festival, held from Oct. 24 to 28, is geared towards driving social change and provoking youth interest in arts and photography.

“Over 200 photos will be exhibited at the Exhibition Pavilion in Area 10, including the works of Ashia Audu, Hakeem Salaam, GeorgeOsodi, Ukandi Atsu, Fatima Yusuf, Ene Inalegwu, and Jackie Ore.”

The curator added that the works of Fellipe Abreu from Brazil, Gideon Mendel from England, and other foreign artists would be showcased at the event.

“We are bringingseasoned Nigerian photographers that are known world-wide to provide mentorship and guidance to build the capacity of the old and the young artists,” he said.
