We appeal to the public to please help us. We have very brilliant and intelligent children here and we can’t afford to allow their potentials get wasted because of a situation they didn’t call or bargain for- Pastor Solomon Folorunsho

Residents of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Edo, have appealed for assistance from the public to register some of them for the 2021/2022 WAEC,NECO and NABTEB examinations.

Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, Coordinator of the camp situated in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state, made the appeal in an interview in Benin, on Wednesday.

Folorunsho disclosed that the management of the camp needed over N1 million to enrol the about 70 IDPs, due to sit for the WAEC/NECO/NABTEB examinations this year.

He noted that although the management of the camp was grappling with several challenges, one of the major and pressing challenges was in how to get the prospective candidates enrolled as the camp had been grappling with paucity of funds since 2019.

He disclosed that the camp used to have 200 to 300 IDPs writing the examinations every year, adding that this year, they only had 70 prospective candidates.

"Another challenge we have presently is the enrolment of children for the ongoing WAEC registration as well as NECO and NABTEB.

"We used to have 200 to 300 candidates, but this year we only have just 70 and that is even still way above the N1 million we need to register them.

"So, we need money to enrol for them, now that WAEC enrolment is expected to end this Friday, and we have been unable to do anything.

"We appeal to the public to please help us. We have very brilliant and intelligent children here and we can't afford to allow their potentials get wasted because of a situation they didn't call or bargain for," he said.

The coordinator noted that the least the camp management could do for the IDPs is to encourage and help them pursue and work towards achieving their dreams.

He added that the Home for the Needy Foundation, the parent body of the IDP, believes that no potential of an IDP must be allowed to die, hence the IDPs were always guided and encouraged to remain focused and determined to triumph over their present prevailing circumstances.

"We pray and hope that kind-spirited Nigerians, because we know we have kind hearted Nigerians in abundance in the country, to urgently help rescue these ones by way of helping to get them enrolled," he said.
