School proprietor cautions parents against supporting their children’s excesses

The school proprietor said poor upbringing could be linked to the high rate of crime among youths, in addition to the problems of unemployment and poverty.

A school proprietor, Mr Victor Aina, on Saturday cautioned parents against pampering their children, saying supporting their wrong-doings or excesses is detrimental to proper growth.

Aina, the proprietor of Best Brain Nursery and Primary School of Ilorin said such parents would definitely regret their actions in the future.

He told the newsmen that parents must never hesitate to check and correct the excesses of their children whenever they misbehave.

According to him, parents who over-pamper their children eventually found it difficult to correct them and put them in the right direction.

”Don’t harbour a child who lacks discipline in the name of love. If you do that, you are planning to ruin his future,” he said.

”Teach them the right things to do and call them to order whenever they went wrong,” Aina added.

The school proprietor said poor upbringing could be linked to the high rate of crime among youths, in addition to the problems of unemployment and poverty.

He then urged parents to be responsible and create time for interaction with members of their family.

Aina also advised them to stop leaving their parental responsibilities for housemaids to handle.

“It is dangerous not to be creating time for your children. Listen to them and advise them consistently,” he said.
