Revive collapsed industries to reduce unemployment- Don
Mr Muhammad Ghani, a lecturer in the School of General Studies, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi state, has said that all the collapsed industries in the country must be revived to reduce unemployment.
Ghani, who stated this in Bauchi on Friday during the 'Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series', organised by the students' Wing, Coalition of Northern Groups, Bauchi state chapter, said the level of youth unemployment is worrisome.
Supreme reports that the theme of the lecture is: "Competent leadership is the only effective remedy to Nigeria's unending ailments".
The lecturer, who was one of the keynote speakers at the event, also said that leaders must keep to their promises for the younger generation to emulate.
He added that in order to have a sane and effective incoming leadership, policies made by the present leaders should be effectively implemented, saying; "great leaders ensure policy implementation".
"The collapsed industries in Nigeria, especially in the North, should be revamped to reduce youth unemployment.
"Lack of effective leadership has rendered many functional industries useless. So, if we want effective leadership, these collapsed industries must be put back in place.
"Issues of insecurity should be objectively addressed and both the ruled and the rulers must be patriotic to the state policy as was laid by late Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first Prime Minister, and late Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
"Education should be highly encouraged, not to be compromised. Discrimination on the basis of minority and majority tribes in a region should be eliminated if we want effective leadership," he said.
According to the lecturer, effective leadership is tool for a successful society while ineffective, irresponsible and deceitful leadership may result in an anarchical society.
In his address, Alhaji Mohammed Kirfi, a participant, called for the effective participation of all Nigerian youths in nation-building in order to hijack the country from its debilitating state in the hands of 'self-centred' political leaders.
"Behind every successful society, there must be industrious and resourceful youths.
"Youth are the mirror of every society and the development of every society, region or nation lies upon the shoulders of committee youth," he said.
Also, Emuseh Bokunga, Deputy National Coordinator, Coalition of Northern Groups Students' Wing, said that the programme was to reawaken the minds of youths, especially Northern youths.
Bokunga revealed that the group had visited 14 Northern states to organise the lecture series.
He explained further that the programme would allow Northern youths to come up and take their places in government, business, and leadership and in all the spheres of life.
