Abdullahi said the institution had, within a session, seized more than 190 mobile phones brought to examination halls that contained materials intended for cheating in the examinations.

The Registrar of Abdu-Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara, Mr. Kabiru Abdullahi, says the institution will "advance maximum punishment" against students caught in any form of examination malpractice.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau by Mr. Sani Garba, Head of Public Relations of the institution.

Abdullahi expressed concern over the increasing number of students "bringing programmable objects into the examination halls of the institution."

He said the institution had, within a session, seized more than 190 mobile phones brought to examination halls that contained materials intended for cheating in the examinations.

"We shall therefore advance maximum punishments for those involved, regardless of their social status."

" We shall henceforth cancel any course or the subject when the offender is caught," Abdullahi said.

The registrar explained that the institution's most recent stance followed numerous cases of mobile phone seizures, numbering about 94 during the first semester of the 2021–2022 academic session.

According to him, the institution has earlier seized 97 phones for the owners' alleged involvement in various forms of examination malpractice using the phones.

He stated that the institution had zero tolerance for examination malpractice, regardless of the student's status.

"The present administration cannot compromise examination at the expense of its integrity."

"Maximum punishment for the offenders will put an end to the menace."

"The law will take its full course, which in this case is the outright cancellation of the paper and seizure of the phone."

"We are committed to ensuring that apprehended offenders face the consequences of their actions without prejudice," Abdullahi said.
