3 Unijos students award German postgraduate scholarship

Three Students of the Department of Theatre and Film Arts, University of Jos, have won fully sponsored Postgraduate Exchange Programme for Masters degrees in Film Culture and Archival Studies in Germany.

Mr Abdullahi Abdullahi, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Affairs of the University, said this in a statement on Thursday in Jos.

He said that the German exchange programme was a collaboration between some German training institutions and the University of Jos as well as the Nigerian Film Institute (NFI).

He said the NFI would also facilitate the postgraduate work of six other students in Nigeria.

He said that Prof. Sati Fwanshak, Deann Faculty of Arts of the University, presented the beneficiaries to the management of the University.

He said that the presentation was aimed at updating the management about the partnership and to seek blessings for the students to excel as they undertook their studies.

Fwanshak explained that the objective was to train the students to become experts and global leaders in the field of Film Culture and Archival Studies.

He added that they would become experts in `Restoration, Digitization, Preservation, Codification, Classification of Creative Works and Audiovisual Heritage as well as other related human endeavours'.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, congratulated the students for emerging winners of a well competitive process.

The VC urged them to properly utilise the lifetime opportunity presented by the exchange programme to acquire hands-on skills that would improve their lives.

Ishaya described cultural adaptation as key in learning process adding that the students must be willing to adjust to a different lifestyle in order to fit-in and acquire all that was needed for them to excel.

He encouraged them to be good ambassadors of the university and urged them not to forget where they came from.

Supreme reports that the benefitting students are: Jemima Choji, Hamza Abubakar and Ali Dankwat.

Supreme also reports that the scholarship which is valued at €7,925 Euros will enable the students to undertake a six-month internship programme with the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.

The scholarship would allow them to access funds for school fees, research support and other related activities for the programme.
