A 28-year-old driver, Rasheed Arowolo, who allegedly drove his car under the influence and knocked down a pedestrian, on Monday appeared in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The police charged Arowolo, who resides in Ifako,Gbagada, with dangerous driving.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate O.M. Ajayi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Ajayi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must produce evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the matter until Oct. 27 for mention
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Donjour Perezi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 5
on the Medina Estate road by Orange Lounge, Ifako in Gbagada area of Lagos.
Perezi alleged that the defendant drove his car on the pubic highway in a reckless and dangerous manner and knocked down a pedestrian, Mr Olajide Ige.
“The defendant drove his Ford Edge Jeep without respect for other road users and crushed the left leg of Ige. The leg was later amputated,’’ he said.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defenfant drove without driver’s and vehicle licences and damaged a Toyota Corolla Salon Car, Property of Ososanya Adewunmi.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 18(1), , 19(1) and 28(1) of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
