Denmark on Thursday said it had completed the evacuation of embassy staff and their families from the Afghan capital Kabul, the government announced.

Denmark’s Defence Minister Trine Bramsen told Danish news agency Ritzau on Wednesday evening that “It is no longer safe to fly from Kabul airport.’’

The last plane involved in the Danish evacuation mission had already landed in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, she said.

On board were 90 evacuees, the last Danish employees, soldiers, and diplomats from Kabul, she added.

Denmark had evacuated about 1,000 people from Afghanistan in recent days.

The U.S. President Joe Biden has said U.S. troops – the key guarantor of security at Kabul airport – would finish their evacuation mission and all be out of the country by Aug. 31.
