In the last few months, Akpabuyo LGA which shares close proximity with Bakassi LGA, has witnessed a rise in criminal activities, ranging from cult clashes and militancy among others.

The Nigerian Army has given express directives to troops to deal ruthlessly with criminal elements operating in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River.

Brig.- Gen. Everest Okoro, Commander 13 Brigade Nigerian Army stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akpabuyo, on Thursday.

Supreme News reports that in the last few months, Akpabuyo LGA which shares close proximity with Bakassi LGA, has witnessed a rise in criminal activities, ranging from cult clashes and militancy among others.

Okoro, who warned criminals that they had no hiding place in Akpabuyo, advised them to desist from their misguided ways or meet their waterloo in the hands of the highly motivated troops of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

“Criminals who are not ready to turn a new leaf will be decisively dealt with and given what they deserved.

“Troops have been given express directives to deal ruthlessly with criminals in line with extant rules of engagement and standard operating procedures during internal security operations,” he said

Okoro, who commended other security agencies, harped on the need for more inter-agency collaboration within the joint operating environment to foster peace and tranquility in Cross River.

The commander appreciated the citizens of Akpabuyo for their support and assured them of the readiness of the Army to safeguard their lives and property in the area.

“I want to thank you for your unwavering support to the Brigade in the discharge of its responsibilities.

“Also, I solicit your cooperation in the provision of timely and actionable information in tackling crimes and criminalities.

“I assure you that the brigade will scale up its patrols, check points and roadblocks amongst other kinetic and non-kinetic measures,” Okoro said.

In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Akpabuyo, Maurice Nyan thanked the Nigerian Army for their visit and concern for the LGA.

Nyan said that the commander had given the people hope, adding that the relative peace and security they enjoyed were as a result of the activities of the army.

Present at the meeting were the clan /village heads, presidents of the youth councils, family heads, women leaders, and some residents of the community.
