Mr Echefulam Anugwa, the Assistant Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has urged security agencies at the country’s border posts to collaborate to check human and drug trafficking.

Anugwa, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, gave the advice during a one day working visit to the Seme border and Lagos State Border Patrol Commands of NIS on Wednesday.

According to him, this will enable all the agencies to effectively combat human and drug trafficking in the border areas.

“Our duties at the border should not be taken lightly. We need each other to succeed together.

“We have to work in collaboration because when the choose are down, security is also down.

“We must involve ourselves in intelligence sharing, joint operations, and the use of technology like biometric verification and data analytics at borders to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal networks.

“The goal is to create a united front against these complex threats, which often link to broader criminal activities like cultism and human trafficking,” the zonal coordinator said.

Anugwa assured the two commands that he would work with headquarters to ensure more operational vehicles are provided for effective patrols.

The ACG said that the service had procured uniforms for personnel, adding that it would be distributed with their identification cards soon.

He commended the two commands for working hard to ensure sanity at the border post.

Speaking, Mr Abdullahi Adamu, the Comptroller, Seme Command, NIS, commended the ACG for creating time to visit the command.

Adamu said that men and officers of the command work in synergy with other security agencies to curb human and drug trafficking in the area.

Also speaking Mr Peter Adache, the Controller, Lagos Border Patrol Command, Seme, said the command had intercepted over 100 victims of human trafficking and resettled them with their families.

Supreme news reports that the ACG and his entourage used the opportunity to pay homage to Akran of Badagry to receive royal blessing.

At the palace, some chiefs complained about the proliferation of security checkpoints mounted on the Agbara-Badagry-Seme border corridor.

The chiefs urged the ACG to assist in curbing excesses of security personnel accused of extorting residents of Badagry who daily commute on the corridor.
