The Ember months are not new to us. We already have an operational order planned, drafted, and currently being enforced as it should be.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has assured visitors and residents of Lagos adequate security throughout the remaining ‘Ember’ months.

He gave the assurance while speaking with journalists during the ‘Show of Force’ exercise in Lagos on Friday.

He said that the period remains peaceful and that the police had put comprehensive measures in place to sustain safety across the state.

Jimoh said the police had long prepared an operational strategy covering September to December to prevent crime and protect lives and property.

“The Ember months are not new to us. We already have an operational order planned, drafted, and currently being enforced as it should be.

“We have massively deployed police personnel across the state and also have officers in mufti monitoring activities to preempt any criminal intentions,” he said.

The police boss said that the command had been conducting continuous raids on criminal hideouts, leading to several arrests and the recovery of illegal weapons and other incriminating items.

“We have apprehended quite a number of suspects involved in various crimes and recovered several illegal weapons. These efforts are ongoing to ensure Lagos remains safe,” Jimoh added.

The Commissioner assured business owners, residents and travelers that they could go about their normal activities without fear, stressing that the police would ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“People should feel free to plan their holidays and celebrate with their loved ones. Those traveling in and out of Lagos will be protected, and there are arrangements to safeguard properties while people are away,” he said.

Jimoh also highlighted the role of the newly established Eko Strike Force, describing it as a special intervention unit capable of responding swiftly to any security issues on both the mainland and the island.

He commended the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun for providing the necessary logistics and support that have enhanced the unit’s effectiveness.

“The Eko Strike Force is a creation of the Nigeria Police Force and they have been very effective in combating all forms of crime and criminality across the state,” Jimoh stated.

According to him, there is no cause for alarm as the state remains calm and secure.

“There is nothing dangerous about the Ember months. Everything is peaceful, and we intend to keep it that way,” he said.
