In fact, we had almost daily attacks along Jibia-Katsina Road and other places, and I must say that it has reduced to the barest minimum.

The outgoing Commander of the 17-Brigade Katsina, Brig-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, has said that the security situation in the state improved when he assumed office in January 2022.

The outgoing Commander made the statement on Friday in Katsina while handing over the brigade command to the new Commander, Brig-Gen Oluremi Fadairo.

According to Ajose, I have fought in my own way, and I believe it was a fight well fought. When I came, the security situation was not as good as it is now. In fact, we had almost daily attacks along Jibia-Katsina Road and other places, and I must say that they have been reduced to the barest minimum.

“With the support of the officers and soldiers of the brigade, the sector two operation (Hadarin Daji), and other sister agencies, we were able to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists in the state.”

He also said that with the support of sister agencies in the state, the army was able to handle the security situation successfully during the elections.

According to him, it is on record that Katsina was one of the best in the area of security throughout the elections, adding that other achievements under his leadership include improved troop welfare and combat efficiency through sustained training.

“Prior to my coming, we had some challenges moving at night, but I can tell you that now our troops are always ready whenever they are called on.

“Also, we have a 24-hour emergency call centre that responds to any distress calls at any time of the day,” he said.

He, however, added that under his leadership, there were improved medical facilities in the barracks, vocational training, and an improvement in the standard of living within the brigade command.

According to him, he has increased the number of serving corps members under the brigade, with the largest number being medical personnel, who are paid every month.

He commended everyone who contributed to his success as commander and called on them to also give Brig. Gen. Fadairo the same support.
