JUST IN: Terrorist hits another station amidst mourning of Abuja-Kaduna train attack
As the nation is still writhing in pain, over the mayhem caused by an attack on a Kaduna-bound train from Abuja on Monday evening, the terrorists, returned on Tuesday with another strike on Gidan rail station on the same Abuja- Kaduna rail track, less than 24 hours after.
It comes as eight passengers have been confirmed dead, including a medical doctor identified as Chinelo Megafu, working at St Gerrard's Hospital, Kakuri, 26 others and many more abducted or missing, by the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Kaduna State Government.
Officials of the station, who confirmed the incident, said that the terrorists blew a rail track and disrupted the movement of a train heading to Abuja.
The Kaduna State Government confirmed receiving the manifest containing the full list the passengers on board the ill-fated train, marked AK9, while also indicating that it would pick the bills of those currently receiving treatment at the two hospitals they were taken after their rescue.
Contrary to the earlier belief that the train was carrying close to 1,000 passengers, the documents said 398 bought tickets for the trip, but 362 were validated as having boarded the train through the recognised turnstile.
Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, in the state, who said in a statement that the passenger manifest did not include NRC staff and security officials who were on board, adding that security agencies had also reported that eight bodies were recovered and 26 persons were injured during the attack.
"Investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the status of the passengers who were on board the train and remain unaccounted for at the time of this update. Search operations are also being sustained. Citizens are requested to contact the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency on the phone line 09088923398, to make enquiries or provide information regarding passengers who were on board the Abuja-Kaduna train AK9," the statement added.
Meanwhile, the list of victims shot and injured by the attackers showcases the names of 16 victims. They include Haruna Muhammed; Mohammed Modibo; Ibrahim Wakala; Yakubu Nuhu; Abdulahi Yahaya; Ismail Saidu; Abdumalik Rasheedat; Umar Mohammed.
Others on the list are: Hadiza Umar; Musa Ishawan; Aisha Yusuf; Mohammed Ameen; Abubakar Hauwau; Aliyu Sulaiman; Olaosebikan Bilikisu, and Mrs Leola Abdulbasit.
