Gov. Hyacinth Alia has condemned Tuesday’s terrorist attacks on the people of Abande, Turan, in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue.

Alia made his reaction known in a statement released on the attack and made available to newsmen by Mr Tersoo Kula, his Chief Press Secretary, on Wednesday, in Makurdi.

“The terrorists dared this state and the Nigerian security system by repeating such a heinous act, and they must be treated in the language they understand.

“These terrorists opened fire on innocent people on a market day and killed and razed houses.

“My heart goes out to these peaceful people,

“This act of terror that claimed these innocent lives, including a gallant police officer, and destroyed homes is an assault on humanity,” he said.

The governor extended his condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Abande community at the painful time.

He assured people of Benue that his government will not relent in its duty to protect lives and property.

“I have directed the security agencies to intensify operations in the affected areas,

“They must go after the perpetrators and restore safety to our communities.

“This government is meticulously strengthening collaboration with federal security authorities and our local intelligence structures to bring justice and ensure that such attacks are decisively prevented.

“My people of Turan and Kwande at large, you are not alone.

“I stand with you in solidarity and compassion,” the Gov. said.

The Governor finally charged the people to hold fast to hope, unity, and resilience at this moment of grief, saying the state shall overcome this challenge.
