People whose homes were damaged when a tornado struck in the south-eastern Czech Republic last week would be eligible to about 80,000 euros (95,480 dollars) in aid as well as a cheap loan worth about 120,000 euros.

The government in Prague decided on Monday.

The assistance will also be on offer to businesses and those in agricultural industries, said Klara Dostalova, the minister for regional development.

Six people, including a two-year-old, died when the storm struck late on Thursday.

There were more than 200 injuries.

The Health Minister, Adam Vojtech also sent a medical team to the region to help exhausted aid workers.

Clean-up work after the tornado has resulted in further injuries.

The tornado tore a 500-metre-wide gash into the countryside that stretches for 26 kilometres.

About 1,200 homes were damaged across seven communities.

Clean-up work has kept hundreds of firefighters, soldiers and volunteers busy since then.

Thousands of homes also remain without electricity.
