A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court in Benue on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Terkimbi Kumun, to three months in correctional centre for stealing four phones, other items and N5 000 cash.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Cynthia Ikpe, sentenced kumun after he plead guilty to a charge of stealing.
Ikpe, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine.
Kumun of Tse-Kumun village of Mbagwen, Makurdi Local Government Area, was arraigned along David Terngu, who plead not guilty.
Ikpe granted Terngu bail in the sun of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until July 7 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘E’ Division Police Station by Mr Victor Ukpa on June 17.
Godwin said that Kumun lead a three- man gang to rob the complainant and his two friends
He said they stole, one Tecno L9 valued N40,000, one Itel 516 and ear pod phone valued at N42,000, Itel 36 Android phone valued N30,000, a power bank value N7,000 and N5,500 cash.
Godwin said that the Itel 516 and ear pod were recovered from the defendants.
He said that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Benue State.
