Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) has cautioned residents of Maiduguri Metropolis and environs on release of excess water from Alau Dam.

The authority in a statement by the Managing Director, Mr Abba Garba on Tuesday in Maiduguri, advised those living along the shores of the river to take steps to avert danger to lives and property.

He stated that “the CBDA wishes to inform the general public that the gates of Alau Dam is going to be opened to release water to the down stream of River Ngadda.

“The authority also wishes to advise those living on the shores of River Ngadda to take precautionary measures to avert any damage to lives and property.

“The authority also wishes to solicit for the cooperation of all and sundry in that regard, please,” Garba said.

Supreme reports that River Ngadda passes through populated areas of Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas.

Supreme recalls that in 1994 when part of the dam collapsed due to excess water, several wards in Maiduguri were flooded, leading to destruction of many properties.
