Skypower/KADIRS agree on staggered tax evasion payment

Based on the clear understanding that the company failed to deduct but not failed to remit to the tax authorities, Skypower and KADIRS have since agreed on payment by instalments.

The management of Skypower Express Ltd has said that it has since resolved its perceived face-off with Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADRIS) over non payment of tax.

This is contained in a statement signed by the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mohammed Yunus and made available in Kaduna on Thursday.

This is coming on the heels of an earlier report that KADIRS had in June sealed the airline’s office following its failure to remit outstanding tax of N5.4 million.

Yunus said: “The funds in question over which the KADIRS obtained a distrain order are the Pay As You Earn (PAYE). These are taxes deducted from staff salaries already paid.

“Even though the concerned employees are supposed to refund the amounts to obtain their tax clearance certificate, Skypower Express Airways accepted full liability for failing to deduct the taxes in question at source.

“Based on the clear understanding that the company failed to deduct but not failed to remit to the tax authorities, Skypower and KADIRS have since agreed on payment by instalments.

“With this, the distrain order has been put aside and Skypower Express Airways operations continue nationwide to serve its numerous customers.”

He said the airline operates in Nigeria and West Africa with Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority certification.
