Coach of Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa, Opuene Yekorogha, has attributed the team’s success at the ongoing National Division One Handball Championship in Benin to hard work and players’ commitment.

Yekorogha, whose girls emerged champions of the league’s female category, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin that a lot had gone into achieving success.

The Bayelsa female team defeated Gallant Babes of Anambra 20-12 to win the competition.

NAN reports that the team, having won the female category in the competition, thus qualified for the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League alongside Confluence Queens of Kogi.

Confluence Queens qualified for the league after coming from behind to narrowly beat Delta Force of Asaba 14-12, to finish as runners-up behind Bayelsa Queens.

Yekorogha said he was happy with the result, especially after losing their first game in the tournament.

“It feels great and it means that our hard work and commitment paid off, after all the struggles that the team went through in spite of losing our first game,” he stated.

Speaking on their victory, the team’s Captain, Blessing Peter, attributed the success to playing to the coach’s instructions.

“I feel very happy for our victory, because we listened to the coach’s instructions before and during the games,” Peter said.
