Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has thanked the G7 countries and European leaders for their firm support of the country, as it faces threats from China.

On Twitter, Tsai said that she was “grateful to the G7 leaders for emphasising the importance of stability in the Taiwan Strait.”

“Taiwan is dedicated to maintaining a free & open Indo-Pacific, & will continue to work with our global partners to ensure regional security,” Tsai tweeted.

A communique issued after the G7 summit said that the seven countries “underscore the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and encourage the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues.”

Tsai said on Facebook that this is the first time G7 leaders underscore the stability across the Taiwan Strait in a summit communique.
