James Pindar, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025, said that the tournament serves as a platform for youth to develop thier skills and pursue career in the sports.

Pindar stated this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Abuja.


He said that the ongoing Volleyball challenge promotes the growth of volleyball and discovering promising athletes.

According to him, the event is the largest volleyball competition with a total of 53 teams including 32 men’s and 21 women’s teams from the FCT.

Pindar said that the tournament’s objectives include positively engaging youths, identifying talented volleyball players, and developing their capacity to play .

“ The reasons for this tournament is to unite the local volleyball community, identify talented players, and groom them to represent the FCT.

“ As they participate in the tournament, several scouts from different leagues and clubs are present to spot emerging stars.

“ The young athletes can gain exposure to scouts and recruiters from different leagues and clubs, potentially paving the way for careers in professional volleyball.

“ This an opportunity for players and we have different of scouts from organisations that are also looking out for good players that can represent them in different or various volleyball competitions,” he said.

He said that the organisers also have a team of well-endowed coaches who are doing the selections, and have already began to find talented players.

“ This talented players will be groom to play for the FCT and not only for the FCT, possibly they could also be called to any of the national teams to represent the country,” he said.

He said that the Volleyball Challenge fosters youth sports development and talent discovery among youth .

“ This will engage youths in productive activities, keeping them off the streets and potentially opening up employment opportunities.

“ This is an avenue for them to find their way into some employment, and we have identified talents like this in the past and recruited them into the Air Force and paramilitary organisations,” he said.

Pindar, who is also the Chairman of the FCT Volleyball Caretaker Committee, praised the enthusiasm of the crowd, noting that over 2,000 spectators had attended the event.

“We are thrilled with the response so far. The competition is on, and we thank God for his grace and favor.

The tournament which commenced at the outdoor court of the Moshood Abiola National stadium Abuja, on April 30 is expected to end on May 4.
