NASS Committee urges investment in ICT institutions

Members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity have called for investments in the Federal Government’s ICT institutions.
Rep. Stanley Adedeji, Chairman, House Committee on Digital and Information Technology, made the call after the committee inspected the Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Ltd. National Shared Service Centre on Friday in Abuja.
Supreme news reports that the visit is aimed at assessing GBB’s activities, projects, and programmes, as well as engaging the management on key operational and administrative matters.
Adedeji, who represented the Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Sen. Shuiab Salisu, said that the government was committed to strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and cybersecurity architecture.
He said that good investments and funding for government ICT institutions were key.
According to him, organisations like GBB are pivotal to building the digital infrastructure required to support governance, economic resilience, and Nigeria’s future competitiveness.
He said technology has a critical role in national development, adding that sustained legislative support for the ICT sector remained essential to Nigeria’s economic growth, security, and global competitiveness.
‘’The GBB is a strategic national asset that must be supported and strengthened to effectively deliver on its mandate for the nation,’’ he said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of GBB, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, appreciated the Joint Committee for its continued oversight and support.
Adeyanju reiterated GBB’s commitment to providing secure, reliable, and scalable ICT infrastructure and shared services to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as the private sector across the country.
