The Police on Tuesday, arraigned a 36-year-old man, Anifowose Alaba, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged N485,000 fraud.

Alaba, a resident of Araromi Obo, Afao/Ado-Ekiti, is standing trial on one-count charge of fraud.

The prosecutor, Insp. Olumide Gbamigbade, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Jan. 10, 2020 at about 10:00 a.m. at the Oshodi Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Gbamigbade said the defendant and others at large collected the sum of N485,000 from the complainant, Mr Jamiyu Sadu, on the pretext to supply wood, which he failed to do and had been on the run since then.

He said the defendant was tracked and apprehended by the police.

He noted that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Abiola Gboyega, urged the court to grant his client bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
