Michele Senese, a Camorra Mafia leader and Rome-based drug lord, was hit with a
new arrest warrant on Tuesday as part of an Italian police raid targeting 28 people in total.

Senese was already in prison for other crimes, including murder. He is known as “O’ pazzo” (the crazy one) for alleged
epilepsy and schizophrenia problems that helped him avoid prison in the past.

The Camorra is the Mafia organisation from Campania, the region around Naples. Senese helped expand its reach in Rome,
at least since the early 1980s.

The suspects caught Tuesday face charges including consorting in a criminal association, drug trafficking, attempted murder
and grievous bodily harm, the Carabinieri police said.

Senese was singled out as the head of a Rome drugs cartel that controlled several criminal gangs, including one that counted
among its members late Lazio football club hooligan Fabrizio Piscitelli.

Piscitelli led the Irriducibili (Indomitable) fan group. Among his peers, he was known as Diabolik, a master thief and lead
character of an Italian comic’s series. He was murdered in 2019.

In a separate operation, the Carabinieri arrested 15 people, 12 put in custody and three under house arrest accused
of trafficking cocaine and marijuana in Catania, Sicily.
