The National Mathematical Centre (NMC), says that the mathematics competition for female students in Junior Secondary Schools across the country, is on its second stage for final selection.

Mr Jekayinfa Olatunji, Desk Officer on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) NMC, disclosed this in an interview with Newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

According to Olatunji, 35 states are participating, including FCT in the second round of the competition, adding that the centre has concluded the first round of the competition and will conduct the second round on Feb. 2.

“We wanted to choose 20 participants per state for the competition, but there are some hikes, some state have less than 20 participants, while some have up to 25 and 26.

“But our intension was to pick the best 20 from each state across the 36 states excluding Delta.

“Delta did not participate in the first round; because the examination coincided with the state’s internal exams.’’

He said that after this second stage, the competition would enter the third stage, in which three best students will emerge from each state.

“Those three called amazons from across the 35 states and FCT, will now converge on the centre for one week and there will be thorough tutorials in the first three days in preparation for the grand finale.

“Thereafter, there will be examination to select the best three that will be called heroine 1, 2 and 3.’’

Olatunji added that whoever emerges as Heroine 1 will be “Queen of Mathematics in Nigeria”.
