Mozambique on Wednesday began a two-day national mourning declared by the government in memory of the victims of the deadly car crash that killed 32 people in Manhica district.

The announcement was made by the Spokesperson of the Council of Ministers, Filimao Suazi after a regular session in Maputo.

The spokesperson said that during the mourning period, the national flag would be hoisted at half-mast throughout the national territory and in the diplomatic and consular missions of the country.

“The Council of Ministers has set up an independent and multidisciplinary investigation committee to determine the causes of the accident and propose measures aiming at reducing road accidents in the country,’’ said Suazi.

The crash, involving one cargo truck and a bus, took place on national EN1 road on July 3, which resulted in the death of 32 people and the injury of 26 others who are still being hospitalised.
