Teenager in court for allegedly peddling 1.6kg hemp

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday preferred a count charge of drug trafficking against one 19-year-old Bamidele Popoola. The unemployed teenager is charged with illegal deal on a banned substance, Cannabis Sativa.
The charge is marked FHC/L/334c/21. The NDLEA alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 24, at Ezenwata Transport Park in Iddo, Oyingbo, Lagos.
It said that the defendant unlawfully possessed Cannabis Sativa weighing 1.6kg, in contravention of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004. The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, noted that the section provided for a penalty of up to life imprisonment for drug trafficking. No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
