A 37-year-old man, Oluwademilade Aluko, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates' Court accused of assaulting his neighbour by landing a blow to his left eye.
Aluko, whose address was not given, allegedly assaulted Mr Adebayo Oluwatayo, causing him to sustain severe injury on the eye and body.
The police prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.15 at about 1:00 p.m., in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the defendant gave the complainant fist blow from behind, which resulted into a deep cut on his left eye and cause serious injury.
Adejare said that the offence committed contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant his client bail, and assured that the defendant would not jump bail, but attend his trial to defend himself.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mojisola Salau, granted Aluko N10,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb.16 for hearing.
